PHOTOS FROM THE SHOOTS AND FILMS

THE MISSING

A short film I directed for my film course. This was a collaborative project as part of the 2nd year course, where the film, acting, wardrobe and art departments come together to create short films. The story was set in two times; a happy and light past, and a harsh, cold, unforgiving present. The film tells the story of Jess, a girl who has recently lost her friend, and who is now in danger from the same thing that took her friend...

NICKY'S LIST

This is a film I made with a group of friends as part of V48 Hours, 2012. We were given "Romantic Comedy" as our genre, and decided to morph a group of films under one banner. That's when we came up with the list; the list of girls that the lead character will have to kiss in the most genre defining scenarios. Nicky's List was one mammoth weekend.

HERO

The idea of a normal dude who thinks he's special is one that floats around my head a lot. Hero was the perfect platform for that idea to come out. It was a chance to have fun, do something different, something that was equal parts stupid, sweet and colourful.

It was also a chance for me to experiment with no dialogue, something that I'm always thinking about.

THREE GUYS AT THE END OF THE WORLD

This four episode webseries was an idea that grew very fast. From one afternoon on the couch musing about the idea, to four scrips finished and ready the next week. We filmmed four 7 minute episodes in two days, nearly killing us in the process!

We sourced all the props, location, wardrobe and crew ourselves on a shoestring budget and editted it whenever we found time.

PORCH

I wanted to experiment with cinematography and editing, while still honing my personal directing style. This project is a non-dialogue experimental film, relying on the images and sounds to get a story across (albeit a vague and interpretive story).

We made this with no budget, one main location and any props that we could find.

BARS AND TONE

The final major project at Unitec Film School is the Grad Film. Bars and Tone is my Grad film, written by Tim Waring.

Weeks of pre-production, 4 and a half days of filming, weeks of post-production. This is by a long shot the biggest film I've worked on to date.

It's just what I wanted my 3 years to amount to: it's witty, funny, messed up, dark and dirty. What else could you want?

FINGERTIPS

A music video that I made for my very talented friend Brayden Jeffrey. Brayden studies contemporary music at Auckland University, and his style varies from folk through to soft rock and blues. "Fingertips" is about being trapped in a relationship by your own infatuation, with no escape...

Hamlet: Scene V

At Unitec, the 3rd year students participate in what is called "Studio 3": each Director is given a scene to film in the studio with 3rd year crewmembers and 3rd year acting students. This year was Shakespeare, and I chose to re-create the scene from Hamlet where he speaks to the ghost of his father.

The choice was a stylistic one, but also for the fact that the scene can function as a complete unit, rather than other scenes that rely heavily on exposition or things that happened in the scene before hand. We wanted the feel to be cold, dark, Scandinavian and harsh.

A POST APOCALYPTIC GUIDE TO                   COMPOST

This is my first fully independent short film venture. I wrote, directed and produced this crazy little film myself.

We created a hot, dusty, empty post apocalypse for our characters to inhabit. This film has it's own very unique voice, filled with hawaiian shirts, swear words and cigarettes.

Small crew, 2 day shoot, bugger all money, and some very supportive people created this film!
